Pitch, Hit and Run

pitch hit and runOn Sunday, May 8, at Testa Park the Cortland Youth Bureau will host a free Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run competition for area youth. Registration will start at 1 p.m. and the competition will begin at 1:30 p.m. Participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate. The Cortland High Baseball team and coaches will run the event.

Pitch, Hit and Run is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball. This grassroots program is designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to compete, free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball and softball skills.

Competitors are divided into four age groups: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14 and have the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including team champions at Major League ballparks and the National finals will be held during MLB's All-Star week. Cortland has sent more that a half dozen players who have advanced to Major League ballparks in recent years.

The individual pitching, hitting and running champions, along with the All-Around champion in each age group at the local competition will be awarded and advance to the section competition.
