League Age and DivisionsAssessment Day

Divisions are configured on the "league age" of the players. The breakdown is as follows:

Rookie Division: 6-8* year olds - coach pitch
*5 year olds with previous T-ball or rec league experience are allowed to play in the Rookie Division.

Minors Division: 8-10 year olds - coach and player pitch

Majors Division: 10-12 year olds - player pitch only

How to Determine League Age

For players born after Jan. 1, 2006
League age is based on a cut off date of Dec. 31. For Example: A player who turns 8 years any time during the calendar year is considered to be league age 8. See the chart below for reference.

Why some players are moved up

Each year, Crown City Little League will move up a certain number of 8 year olds into the Minor Division and 10 year olds into the Major Division. The number of players that are chosen to move up each year is dictated by the number of players needed to round our division numbers. For example: If the Major Division has sixty eight 11 and 12 year olds, this is not enough players to make six teams of 12 players. We would then move up four ten year olds. We have developed criteria for choosing those players who are moved up.

Skills Assessment - Each year CCLL conducts a Skills Assessment Day. The intent is to group players of similar abilities together for the draft. This ensures the teams are as fair as possible. At Skills Assessment Day evaluators with coaching experience view each player at a series of skill stations. The players are given grades at each station and then given an overall score. The higher the score, the more likely it will be that the player will be moved up. PLEASE NOTE: Because of the adusted league requirements in 2015, a certain range of players who would have been league age 8 under the previous criteria are now league age 9. Crown City Little League will assess these players as league age 8 year olds.

Parent/Player Request - If a parent and/or player feels strongly about which division they play in, this is taken into consideration. There are however, no guarantees that any such request will be honored.

Parents should remember that this is a youth sport. It is not a big deal if a player is not "moved up". We would urge parents to be supportive of their players and all of the volunteers in the league. Most issues, with parent support, usually work out for the best.
